About the kunstbunker
Since 1994, the „kunstbunker“ has been in use as a center for exhibitions and activities as described. The „kunstbunker“ is situated directly under a large parking lot. Its location is quite central and adjacent to the Kunsthalle Nuremberg.
The „kunstbunker“ is maintained by the association „kunstbunker-Forum for Contemporary Art, Ltd.,“ which, with the help of membership fees, furthers its activities as well as giving them shape in a „programming committee.“ The „programming committee“ consists of one representative, respectively, of the Art Academy of Nuremberg, the Association of Nuremberg Art Galleries, as well as–in an advisory function–of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Nuremberg–thus reflecting a configuration identifiable as the founders and promoters of the project.
An important consideration for the goals and policies of the „kunstbunker“ (in conformity with the original concepts of the Art Academy and the Association mentioned) is the earnest desire not to use the „kunstbunker“ as a museum displaying solipsistic activities but to employ it for rendering possible the encounter with, and analysis of, artistic viewpoints coming to it from the outside.
There is, in addition, the interest that the Academy has in enabling the public to participate in art debates in educative contexts and the interest that the persons cooperating in the Association have in promoting contemporary art in the city in its entirety–given all this, what we have is a scenario of inspiring cooperation for everybody involved.
The „kunstbunker“ wishes to be a forum for contemporary art in this city–a venue for both displaying and experimenting with it. Above all, it wishes to strengthen the interest in contemporary art in Nuremberg and thereby bring about an ambiance, acceptance, and respect for art.
